Indiana Filing Requirements for New Employees
Bob Mann, Attorney-at-Law

Employers should be aware that the State of Indiana now requires you to notify in writing the Indiana Department of Workforce Development, New Hire Directory, within twenty (20) days of the hiring of all new employees.

This law was effective October 1, 1997. The Indiana Department of Workforce Development has issued information and forms which you should have received by now.

The information required is the employee's name, address, social security number, your company name, address, and federal tax identification number. You can submit to Workforce Development the copy of the employees W-4 Form, or you can use the scanable W-4 Form issued by the Department. The latter is preprinted with your name and address.

The report can be submitted by mail to: New Hire Directory, Indiana Department of Workforce Development, 10 No. Senate Avenue, Room 5E 007, Indianapolis, Indiana 46204; by fax to New Hire Directory, Indiana Workforce Development at 1-800-408-1388; or via the Internet. It also may be submitted magnetically—call 1-800-437-9136 for instructions.

Remember, the report must be postmarked, if mailed, by the due date or otherwise received by the Department within twenty (20) days of the hiring date.

For additional questions, you can call the Indiana Department of Workforce Development at 1-800-437-9136 or Bob Mann at 812-332-4200.
